Craniosacral Therapy for Dental Trismus

Craniosacral Therapy for Dental Trismus

Trismus, or lockjaw, is a painful condition in which the jaws do not open fully. As well as pain, trismus can lead to problems with eating, speaking, and oral hygiene as a person cannot open their mouth wide. Other symptoms may include jaw pain and cramping, difficulty biting, chewing, or brushing the teeth, inability to swallow some foods, headaches, and earache.

Trismus occurs when a person is unable to open their mouth more than 35 millimeters (mm). Dental trismus is typically a result of any dental procedure or oral surgery.

Balanced Manual Therapy offers customized therapies for clients who have been medically cleared to receive intra-oral treatment (jaw work)  in the form of Craniosacral Therapy.  If the cause of your trismus is due to an infection, or any radiation treatment, the treatments we offer will be contraindicated.
